CitationHQ exists because a decade of building citations by hand for UK businesses convinced us there had to be a better way, and nobody had built it.
15+ years in SEO across technical, local, and ecommerce. Founder of SEOBurf. Worked with hundreds of UK businesses across trades, legal, dental, pharma, SaaS, and hospitality.
James founded SEOBurf in 2014 to help UK local businesses rank in Google. Over a decade and hundreds of local SEO projects later, one problem kept coming back: citations. Every new client needed them, every audit surfaced mistakes in them, and every existing tool in the market either cost too much, ran too slow, or produced inconsistent results.
CitationHQ is the result. The same process we have run for SEOBurf clients for years, packaged as a product any UK business owner can use in minutes, without the agency markup.
James Burfield launches SEOBurf in Bath, focused on UK local SEO and technical SEO for SMEs.
SEOBurf runs local SEO and citation-building campaigns across trades, legal, dental, hospitality, and professional services.
James builds internal scripts and Apify actors to automate the citation-building process for SEOBurf clients.
The internal tooling is productised, hardened, and released as CitationHQ, the same process any UK business owner can run themselves.
SEOBurf has run local SEO and citation campaigns across these verticals. CitationHQ inherits those playbooks.
CitationHQ runs on Next.js (Vercel), Supabase, Stripe, Apify, and Resend. The same stack we use to build internal tools at SEOBurf. All hosted in London (lhr1) for UK-first performance.
We use Ahrefs for Domain Rating and link analysis, BrightLocal and Whitespark for citation auditing benchmarks, and Apify for the actual submission automation. The directory list is curated and refreshed quarterly.
