In one month this year we lost two directories off our own list. Tupalo stopped answering at all, having been a perfectly good Domain Rating 56 site. B2BIndex kept its authority and its traffic and quietly turned into a gambling affiliate. Central Index, which powers around thirty UK newspaper directories, announced it is switching off in October.
None of that shows up in a score. We check every directory on your list every Monday: that it still answers, that it is still the directory we think it is, that its certificate has not lapsed, and that its authority has not collapsed. When one breaks, we rebuild that listing somewhere that has not.
Most directories verify an email, so the account is created, the listing submitted and the confirmation handled without troubling you. Seven do something different: they verify the business, by posting a card to your address, ringing your line, or checking that you really work there. Nobody outside your business can complete those, and any service claiming otherwise is either using your login or not doing it at all.
